It’s been a while since I had time to sit in peace and play around with a new pattern, so I was very happy to have some quiet time on the train when going to visit friends in London recently. I’ve been wanting to make new snowflake patterns for ages and have lots of sketches lying around of potential patterns, but of course, in the end I ended up making it up as I went along and the result of the first attempts is this Pointsetta Snowflake.
The Pointsetta Snowflake has a bit more of a floral quality about it than my other snowflakes, but it still reminds me of Christmas and snow, so maybe it’s more of a snowflower than a snowflake. I called it Pointsetta as it reminded me of the red or white Pointsettia flowers we would always get up to Christmas when I was a child.
As with all my snowflakes I mostly make my snowflakes in 3-ply linen yarn and a 2 mm hook, but I have also been able to make this one in Scheepjes Maxi Bon Bon/Sugarrush yarn and a 1.5 mm or 1.75 mm hook. The Scheepjes yarn is 100% cotton and it has a better stitch definition than the linen, but the linen has a more rustic look and is easier to stiffen with the PVA glue and water mix I normally use. It can of course be made with other yarns, and whichever one you choose I’m sure it will look great!

I give the pattern below in both UK and US terms – you can find a guide to the abbreviations on my page Crochet Terms. You can now buy a PDF file with the pattern for this Pointsetta Snowflake and my 11 other snowflake patterns in my Etsy shop or my Ravelry Store for a small sum. The file contains photo tutorials for some of the patterns and details of all special stitches needed.
Please remember that this is my design and my copyright – feel free to use them for yourself, but please do not claim, translate, or publish the pattern as yours. I’d appreciate it if you credit me as the designer if you post pictures or sell what you make online – thanks!

I hope you enjoyed making this pattern. I would love to see your versions of the Pointsetta Snowflake, so if you feel like it you can tag me on Instagram or add it as a project on Ravelry. You can also send it to me on Facebook.
It takes me a long time to design these patterns and to write them out – and running a website is not free. I have decided to keep my site ad-free, so if you like my patterns I’d be very happy if you would consider making a small donation towards the cost:
Thank you!
