Sometimes having too many irons in the fire can be a definite downside to continuing with pet-projects! However, it fuels my creative process and ensures I’m never bored or short of things to do! And I do get things done in the end – such as the next step in my Flower Wheel Mandala Series – the Medium Flower Wheel Coaster Square. It is not a huge step up from the last stage – the Small Flower Wheel Coaster Square – but it will continue to grow and metamorphose, so there is method in the name-madness! Just hang in there if you don’t believe me! NB: this pattern has been edited since the middle of April 2018 to make it better and the stitch count go with the other squares.
This medium one is designed to be compatible with other larger crochet squares that are often around 12 inches (30.5 cm) in Aran weight yarn (Worsted in US) – so this one is just that! When made with Drops Nepal and a 5 mm hook that is. When made with Drops Belle (DK yarn) and a 4 mm hook it measures around 9.5 inches (24 cm) and with Scheepjes Catona and a 3 mm hook it is around 7.5 inches (19.5 cm). To make this square you first need to go to the Flower Wheel Coaster and complete that, then to the Small Flower Wheel Coaster Square and complete that and then carry on with this one. In a way it’s a bit like a CAL with adding one step at a time, but I didn’t want to make it as organised as that. The pattern is written using standing stitches to start each round rather than turning chains. This technique makes the joins neater and in the end it is faster as you mostly sew in ends as you go along. If you don’t know how to use standing stitches you can find a tutorial here.
Please remember that this is my design and my copyright. You’re most welcome to use the pattern for yourself, but please do not copy, reproduce or translate it and use it as your own. If you sell what you make or post pictures of your makes I would appreciate if you mention where you got the pattern and direct people to my site. Thanks!

Hi, in round four I think there’s a “chain one” missing between each stitch. It’s referred to in round five where the double crochet goes.
Thanks for such a pretty pattern. 😊
Hi Barbara, thanks for your comment and sorry for taking so long to respond. You’re indeed right, I’ll get it updated ASAP! 🤗
Is this going to get any bigger?
Thanks for asking! It is, but I’m really busy at the moment and can’t find time to get it to the right size – but it will get there!
Thank you!
Want to be on an email list.
Hi Leona,
Thanks for bringing that to my attention! I have added a subscription form just above the post categories!
Best wishes,
