I’m slowly trying to work my way through a backlog of old patterns I’ve been wanting to get out as well as working on new things, which is rather a juggling act at the best of times! Ever since I made the pattern for the Chunky Herringmesh Cowl I wanted to make one that was worked in a round rather than in rows and here it is – the Horizontal Herringmesh Cowl. The principle for the pattern is the same, but it is worked in a round, so you don’t have to crochet the two ends together when you’re finished.
While the herringbone effect of the mesh is somewhat stronger in the Chunky Herringmesh Cowl, the edge looks neater in this one and it is more satisfying to crochet in a round and not have any joins. Both cowls are made with 2 balls of Drops Andes yarn and an 8 mm hook. Drops Andes is a chunky yarn with a yardage of 96 m per 100 g. It is also super soft and snug, being composed of 35% alpaca and 65% wool – I wear my two all the time in the winter! You can of course use other yarns with a similar yardage. The circumference of the cowl is around 51-52 inches / 132 cm. The cowl is fast to make – I can make one in an afternoon or evening.
Please remember that this is my design and my copyright. You’re most welcome to use the pattern for yourself, but please do not copy, reproduce, translate or publish it as your own. If you sell what you make or post pictures of your makes I would appreciate if you mention where you got the pattern and direct people to my site. Thanks!
