With my craft market just over it is now time to turn my attention to pattern making and completing. The first on the list is this Galaxy Snowflake, a pattern I made at the same time as the Pointsetta Snowflake I published recently. It sold fairly well at the market I just had and looks pretty good hanging in windows. I named it Galaxy as the inside of the pattern reminds me of planets orbiting around the sun.

I make all my snowflakes with 3 ply linen yarn and a 2 mm hook, but they also look good made with Scheepjes Maxi Bonbon or Sugarrush and a 1.5 mm hook. The linen yarn blocks and stiffens better, but the Scheepjes yarn is cotton and it has a better stitch definition.
I give the pattern below in both UK and US terms – you can find a guide to the abbreviations on my page Crochet Terms. Please remember that this is my design and my copyright – feel free to use the pattern for yourself, but please do not claim or publish it as yours. I’d appreciate it if you credit me as the designer if you post pictures or sell what you make online – thanks!
You can now buy a PDF file with the pattern for this Galaxy Snowflake and my 11 other snowflake patterns in my Etsy shop or my Ravelry Store for a small sum. The file contains photo tutorials for some of the patterns and details of all special stitches needed.
Special Stitches:
Picot: a picot is a series of chain stitches that are joined to form a loop by making a ss to the first chain. A picot can consist of anything from 3 chains and upwards, all formed into a loop by a ss to the first chain. In this pattern you’ll find ch4 and ch6 picots. E.g. with a ch6 picot you ch 6 and ss to the first ch to make a loop.

I hope you enjoy making this pattern! I would love to see your versions of the Galaxy Snowflake, so you can tag me on Instagram or add it as a project on Ravelry. You can also send it to me on Facebook.
It takes me a long time to design these patterns and to write them out. I have decided to keep my site ad-free, so if you like my patterns I’d be very happy if you would consider making a small donation towards the cost:
Thank you!
