Adelia Wrist Warmers

by saraphir
Follow me

These Adelia Wrist Warmers came about very fast and as a bit of surprise. I’ve got so many other projects in mind, but then got fed up with having cold fingers in the morning as my other wrist warmers are more like cuffs or, as I call them, sleeve extenders. So I decided to follow a vague idea and it worked out much better than I thought! I’ve got a few other ideas for wrist warmers, including knitted ones, that will hopefully be coming soon.

Adelia wrist warmers

These wrist warmers are very simple and easy and fast to work up. They are a good project for beginners as they are made using only 3 stitches. I made them using Drops Puna, a 100% alpaca yarn, which is very soft and lovely to work with and wear. It’s a DK weight yarn with 110 m per 50 g. I use a 4 mm hook and for this project you need around 70 g of the yarn – two balls (1 of each if you’re making stripes). The pattern is written out below in both UK and US terms. The wrist warmers on the photo are made making 2 rows with one colour, but they can of course be made using just one colour or other stripe variations.

Please remember that this is my design and my copyright. Please feel free to use it for yourself, but you may not copy or publish the pattern as your own. If you sell what you make or post pictures of your makes I would appreciate if you mention where you got the pattern and direct people to my site. Thanks!

ADELIA WRIST WARMERS – UK TERMS

Foundation chain: ch 42.

Row 1: 1 htr in 3rd ch from hook, 1 htr in each st till end. (40 sts)

Row 2 – 28: ch 2 (doesn’t count as a st), 1 htr in each st till end.

You now have a squarish piece of crochet.26 rows is a standard female size, 28 for a large female or male hand. The length of the piece for 28 rows should be about 19 cm, the width 23 cm. Fold the piece from top to bottom so the stripes are running vertically. Crochet the two sides together by making a dc through each stitch on both sides for 25 stitches. Make 1 dc in next 9 stitches in the top piece only. Make 1 dc in last 6 stitches through both sides. You now have a cylinder shape piece with a hole for the thumb. Turn the piece inside out so the seam is on the inside.

Top border: Join with a standing dc through the side of one htr, make a dc through the side of each htr around the top rim, ss to 1st dc. You’ll have 28 dc around the rim.

Bottom border: make 3 dc per 2 htr around the bottom rim. If your wrist warmers are like the ones on the picture with 2 rows of htr per colour you’ll need 3 dc per colour. You’ll have 42 dc around the bottom rim.

Sew in ends and make another one – wear and enjoy! Or enjoy giving them away!

Things Men Have Made

Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into

are awake through years with transferred touch, and go on glowing

for long years.

And for this reason, some old things are lovely

warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.
