Free Pattern for Starburst Snowflake

I thought this week I would separate the two Tosne Snowflakes and post the pattern for my own favourite – THE STARBURST SNOWFLAKE. I made it the same autumn as the Feather and Tosne ones and it’s the one that has brought me the most joy personally. When I was contemplating the name for it the other day I was looking at the blocking mat where I had lots of snowflakes pinned out and when looking at the dark grey version of this it really looked like the star was radiance itself. Hence the name. I think I’m getting a bit better at making up names than I used to be!

As with the other snowflakes I make this one with 3-ply linen yarn from a shop on Etsy and a 2 mm hook. I love linen yarn. It is considered more eco-friendly in its manufacturing than cotton and it gives a much more rustic look. It is also naturally quite stiff, which is good when hanging snowflakes! Having said that I do stiffen my snowflakes with a mixture of PVA glue and water. It does roughen them a bit, but when making them for sale they really need to be hanging well.
You’ll find the pattern below in both UK and US terms. For abbreviations please see my page Crochet Terms. You can also find this snowflake together with the Tosne Snowflakes as a PDF file with a photo tutorial in my Etsy shop or Ravelry store. Please remember that this is my design and copyright. If you make to sell I would appreciate if you credit me as the designer and please do not copy the pattern or present it as your own – thanks!

    1. It’s a pleasure Teresa, so glad you like them! It is really lovely yarn, there are several ships from Lithuania that sell it and it’s quite good value. Hope you post pics! Xx
